One of a large number of format transformations is the translation of content to other national languages using the web service Hyper.Net. An example of this is illustrated below:
Practical use
Initial situation
A company creates a comprehensive monthly newsletter in MS Word in German which is distributed in print and online versions. The company uses the free Windows SharePoint Services (WSS) to administrate the documents.
Solution using machine translation and automatic preparation and distribution
| |
| |
1. |
Checking the finished newsletter into the DMS (WSS in this case) in the original (MS Word) version.
| |
2. |
When checking in, the following information has been specified (or is stored) in the profile mask:
| |
| |
· |
Format transformation: Hypertext, PDF
| |
· |
Language transformation; English, French, Spanish, Russian
| |
| |
3. |
Hyper.Net passes the document to an external translation service
| |
| |
· |
This service creates a separate document (MS Word) containing the translated content for each desired language.
| |
· |
All MS Word styles are retained in the process.
| |
· |
The finished documents are returned to Hyper.Net or retrieved by Hyper.Net.
| |
| |
4. |
Hyper.Net checks the translated documents into the DMS (WSS) and logically links the language variants of the content using appropriate metainformation.
| |
5. |
According to the requirements and processes, the machine-translated documents can now be proofed and optimized by human translators.
| |
6. |
As soon as the authorized content of the 5 documents (German, English, French, Spanish, Russian) is available, it is transformed to hypertext and PDF by Hyper.Net, provided with metainformation, hyperlinks etc. and written to a relational database.
| |
7. |
At the same time, Hyper.Net sends a link (or the PDF file) to all subscribers of the newsletter.
| |
8. |
Access to the newsletter collection is provided by a convenient multi-language web application. The newletters are presented complete, well-structured and easily readable in a topic-oriented arrangement with easy-to use search functions.
Result
The company can now distribute its information worldwide in all relevant countries. The information is automatically created in all desired formats and languages from a single German source and automatically distributed via a portal and mail services.
