About This Site
The Coextant Web Site is developed entirely within the Hyper.Net Framework, and is based on the Microsoft.Net product server family and the Microsoft.Net 3.0 platform and architecture. Microsoft Office System 2007 and Windows SharePoint Services v3.0 is used internally to automate the authoring processes and provide robust editorial workflow.
The Web Site demonstrates the power of Content Automation by using Coextant’s transformations technology to transparently combine the capabilities of industry-standard document management and web technologies. This technique makes it possible to provide the functions your organization needs most without the cost and risk of embracing a large-scale content management solution.

Authoring of Content
|
All content in the Web site is authored in MS Office using standard Desktop tools and authoring techniques. A set of MS Word templates - based on the Coextant Docworks - is used for each different type of documents - e.g. manuals, home page documents, news and articles. The templates guide the author and ensure well-structured and consistent content - optimized for web publication - via a set of toolbars and dialog boxes for meta data entry.
Hyper.Net is commonly used without such templates for solutions that connect libraries of corporate content to the web. Use of a template-based authoring solution for MS Office, like Coextant DocWorks, can provide authors with a familiar template-based method for creating content that is more like a traditional content management system, but without the educational requirements of such a system.

Document Management
|
Documents are managed in a set of SharePoint Document Libraries allowing multiple authors in different Coextant offices to share and collaborate on the content. Windows SharePoint Services provides the authors with intuitive library services, review/approval workflow, version control, document profiling (metadata), search, security model and archiving.
We selected Windows SharePoint Services for our content store for this implementation because of its powerful workflow functions and distributed office capabilities. For example, designated Coextant staff can check out content from anywhere in the world and instantly update the site over the web. Microsoft SharePoint can be used in standard corporate situations, and may be tested on Hyper.Net Live.

Transformation of Office files to Web-content
|
Approved documents are automatically transformed into relational data and populated in multiple XML-based formats into a MS SQL database. The Hyper.Net Web ServiceHyper.Net Web Service automates the entire process according to predefined transformation schemas and business logic.

Internet Web site
|
The actual Web Site is a pure Microsoft.Net implementation, using ASPX and Web Part technology to pull in and present the content. The Site is developed in Visual Studio.Net on the Hyper.Net Framework, which provides a web services interface, high-speed caching system, common content display web parts, and a programmer's data access SDK.

Colors and Graphics
|
This site uses web-safe colors. This means that all colors will be shown correctly even if you only have 256 different colors available. The only exception to this principle are the photos that require at least 16 bit colors.
A minimum of graphical elements have been used in order to provide for a fast-loading site. Wherever possible, graphics have been replaced with pure text.
