Stuttgart, January 24, 2006 – With a business volume of 1,6 billion Euros, Sparkasse Starkenburg is one of the most successful credit institutes in the German state of Hessen. To maximize efficiency, the organization is committed to empowering its 340+ workers to create, maintain and use information by enabling them with only the most modern technologies. This commitment is at the heart of the institute’s decision to award Coextant Systems with the order to migrate its existing intranet to finance.net Portal™ - a project which is expected to be completed and brought into production in a record three month timeframe.
|
Starkenburg’s existing intranet, based on Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server and Coextant Hyper.Net, has successfully proven itself over the last few years. This success, along with numerous new features in finance.net Portal™ specifically designed to quickly meet general Sparkasse requirements, helped make Starkenburg’s decision clear.

Business benefits contributing to the decision included the solution’s:
|
| |
· |
seamless integration with and ability to leverage the benefits of the Microsoft Office System,
|
| |
· |
integrated and easy-to-use document management system (provided by SharePoint),
|
| |
· |
facilities for managing flexible, institute-specific keyword and glossary indexes,
|
| |
· |
ability to integrate and leverage the S-Nomenclature concept for the systematic classification of information,
|
| |
· |
comprehensive, built-in functions for completely automating the transformation and distribution of optionally personalized information (HTML, XML, PDF, etc.),
|
| |
· |
high-performance, individually extendable Web Parts that make it possible to quickly snap together consumer-oriented information access portals,
|
| |
· |
proven ability to be seamlessly integrated with existing Notes applications, and its
|
| |
· |
high-performance, enterprise-scalable search engine (provided by SharePoint).

Fulfillment of strategic-level technical requirements also contributed to the decision. All components of the solution are based on the latest technologies (Microsoft Windows 2003, Office 2003, SharePoint Portal Server, SQL Server, .Net) and take an open standards approach from the ground up. The built-in Hyper.Net Web Service automates all information transformation and distribution processes. And because it exposes critical functionality at all levels with API and Web Services interfaces, the solution can be easily tailored to satisfy almost any business requirement and can be intuitively integrated with existing applications (e.g. Lotus Notes) and data. On the bottom line, Microsoft’s S-Desktop Portal licensing model helped make the project financially attractive.
The effort, which includes migrating the existing solution and implementing new requirements, will be implemented by a joint team of Coextant Systems and Microsoft portal specialists and is scheduled for completion in mid-March 2006. Both SharePoint and Hyper.Net will be upgraded to the latest product versions during the migration. Harald Steinert, Starkenburg’s Organization Manager stated: “finance.net Portal has so far represented a positive experience for us. With the product’s new built-in functions and openness, we expect to be able to raise the quality of our information management to a top position in the next years.”
